Roger K. Allen, Ph.D., is a psychologist, author, relationship educator, speaker, and organizational consultant who has spent more than four decades helping people understand themselves more deeply, strengthen their relationships, and live with greater responsibility, purpose, and love.
Roger began his career as an individual, marriage, and family therapist and later co-founded the Human Development Institute, where he provided therapy and created experiential programs in personal growth and relationship development. This work deepened his understanding of how people move beyond fear, self-protection, and limiting patterns to live with greater awareness, agency, and emotional maturity.
He subsequently co-founded the Center for Organizational Design, bringing many of these principles into the workplace. Roger and his colleagues helped leaders create high-performing organizations and developed practical methodologies in leadership, teamwork, communication, conflict resolution, and organizational change. They certified more than 1,500 professionals to use these methods in their own organizations and consulting practices.
Today, Roger’s work focuses on the choices people make in life’s key moments—the moments of challenge, conflict, fear, vulnerability, and opportunity that shape character and relationships. Through books, online courses, audio programs, articles, and videos, he translates psychological insight into practical tools and memorable frameworks that help people cultivate emotional maturity, build healthy relationships, and live meaningful lives.
Roger is a Udemy Instructor Partner whose highly rated courses have reached more than 150,000 students worldwide. He is married to Judy. They are the parents of four adult children and grandparents of fifteen, and they live in Southern Utah.

PHILOSOPHY
Turning Life’s Key Moments into Opportunities for Growth
Life continually presents us with key moments—moments of disappointment, conflict, fear, vulnerability, uncertainty, temptation, success, and opportunity. In these moments, how we respond matters. They do more than reveal us. They shape us.
In every key moment, we face a Moment of Choice. We can react from fear, anger, blame, avoidance, or self-protection—or respond with honesty, empathy, responsibility, courage, and love. Repeated strengthening choices build character, deepen trust, and cultivate emotional maturity.
The Four Stages of Adult Development
The Four Stages describe the larger direction of growth. They are not rigid labels; they illuminate the inner orientation from which we meet life. The Moment of Choice explains how movement occurs—one decision and one practice at a time.
STAGE 1
Survival
“Life is a battleground”
- Focuses on immediate needs and threats
- Reacts from fear or impulse
- Defends, blames, or escapes
STAGE 2
Security
“Life feels safe”
- Seeks acceptance and predictability
- Conforms to expectations
- Avoids risk and disruption
STAGE 3
Success
“Life is a performance”
- Strives to achieve and prove competence
- Seeks recognition and control
- Measures worth through results
STAGE 4
Serenity
“Life feels joyful”
- Lives from values and purpose
- Chooses rather than reacts
- Connects, contributes, and loves

What Students Say
“A fantastic course for everyone at any stage of life. This subject is rarely given the attention it needs; at least in my life, I assumed because I could hear I was able to listen. So many wasted interactions. The commitment is small. The material is well put together, and Roger does a fantastic job in delivering it. The exercises and examples really help with understanding and taking the steps you need to put this material into practice. So much of your success in life, both personally and professionally, will depend on how well you master this skill.”
— Dimiter Pecev, Student in The Power of Deep Listening
